January Training Update

Greetings of the Season

New Year resolutionsFrom everyone at Tri Nation we would like to welcome all our members back from the Christmas and New Year break as we head into another year.

We hope your festive season was filled with happiness and good times with loved ones.

The first race of 2016 is already behind us with a few of our members competing at the QTS event at Robina on Sunday which also doubled as the National Sprint Champs.

A special congratulations to Jan Avery Spoor who took out the title in her 60-64 age group. Jan shows no signs of slowing down and continues to impress with her race results.

Looking ahead on the race front we have members competing at QTS events at Caloundra and Raby Bay leading into Mooloolaba and Kingscliffe. For long course we have the Tweed Enduro and IM New Zealand in 8 weeks so there is lot’s to look forward to.

Our first beginner course of 2016 has started with 18 excited participants in training for the QTS event at Raby Bay on February 21st. And next weekend we have our first training camp for the year at Noosa over 4 days.

The training calendar and session locations are set to try and suit as many people as possible as well as cater for the different abilities and events that members are training for.

Depending on those factors, further demand and lane hire space there may be slight changes to the calendar. Generally though the Monday to Friday sessions are locked in and are unlikely to change.

Weekend sessions are generally revolved around long course for those members aiming to compete in half and iron distance events. All members are welcome to attend and they are also free in that those members with 10 session passes and on social membership will be not be charged for attending.

The only squad sessions that are not free on a weekend will be sessions at Healthstream where it involves lane hire costs.

The weekend sessions are often seasonal depending on what events are coming up. For example there will be weekend sessions right through to June with IM Cairns and then after a short break they will resume leading into the next long course event the squad is focusing on. At this stage we are looking at IM Busselton as the next key focus for the squad.

We currently have a limited number of tri suits in stock plus new stock arriving in early February. For running and cycling kit the shop will be opening shortly for orders. Stay tuned for updates.

Fundraising 2016

As triathletes we are very fortunate to have our health and the ability to do this wonderful sport. There are many that are not so lucky who would love to be able to do what we can.  In the past we have always made an effort to support others whether it be Smile for Smiddy, the Endeavour Foundation, Epilepsy Qld, Special Olympics and local charities such as the Geebung Special School.  All up over the last few years we have raised almost $200,000 for different charities.

In 2016 we would like to support something local and are calling for suggestions from squad members.  It might be a family that requires assistance looking after a ill family member or a local organization that requires assistance with equipment.  Over the year we would like to run different fundraising activities that we facilitate as a squad and then assist someone who really needs it.

If you have any ideas or know of such people please send mark@tri-nation.com.au an e-mail. From there out intention is to form a committee to drive and facilitate the fundraising though the year.
